Ron is a founding partner, HR Atlantic’s senior negotiator, and our resident guru of creative problem-solving.

He regularly leads large-scale contract talks, such as province-wide negotiations in the education and healthcare sectors, and assists many other clients, including non-profit organizations with their collective bargaining challenges. He is well versed in conventional and interest-based negotiations, as well as the alternative dispute resolution techniques of mediation and mediation-arbitration (a combined process of mediation and binding arbitration) to resolve disputes and settle contracts.

Ron brings more than twenty years experience in labour relations. He has acted as Chief Spokesperson in collective bargaining to represent employers in a variety of labour disputes, including hundreds of labour arbitrations, and has provided advice to employers on a variety of labour relations issues. He has been called upon to act as an adjudicator for licensing disputes, disciplinary panels, and labour arbitrations.

Prior to his labour relations career, Ron served as a lawyer with a large Atlantic firm, and before law school, he cut his teeth in the insurance and financial services industry.

Ron has served as a board member for many local non-profit community groups, and is actively involved in the organization and administration of Alpine Ski Racing in Atlantic Canada. He is currently President of PEI Alpine, and Chairperson of the Atlantic Canada Alpine Race Committee.

Ron graduated Dalhousie Law School in 1991. He has a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Waterloo in 1986, and a Diploma in Human Services from Holland College in 1982. He is member of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island and the Nova Scotia Barristers Society.

When not negotiating a collective agreement, Ron can usually be found on a ski hill – when there’s no snow, he enjoys golfing or some light hiking, like the Chilkoot Trail.
